Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
All of our dogs and cats are in foster homes and we have no paid staff. If you have questions concerning a specific animal, PLEASE fill out an application and the foster parent will be in touch. We will not arrange any home visits with any of our dogs and cats until your application is processed. Please understand our foster parents are precious to our 2nd Chance family; without them we cannot function, so we do our best to not burden them with multiple appointments. Our foster parents will choose their top 3 applications and arrange home visits with these applicants. The adopter will be chosen at that time. The process can take anywhere from a week to a month. We want to make sure our little furry ones are placed in their "forever home" and never have to go through a rehoming again!
Meet Lucy! She came as a stray and the shelter called her Mariah, but that was too close to another foster we had, so she is now Lucy ;) Lucy has been with is for over a year and is still VERY skittish! She needs another dog in the home to teach her how to be OK with her new humans. She is going to take a lot of work to get her to trust you. She bounces around like a bunny outside! It is so funny! She sleeps in bed, tucked into another dog. She has started to come sit on the couch with us and snuggle, but it is on her terms and not for very long. It's a shame to think that a puppy cant trust humans and makes you wonder what went on in her short life before coming to us, but she is in a loving home now until her perfect fit comes along! Shes great with other dogs, has not been around cats. She would be fine with older kids, but shes just too scared for younger children.
Everyone meet 6 year old Ottis. His story is quite the heartbreaking one. He was surrendered yesterday due to his owner passing away. When Ottis was just a pup he was hit by a car. His owner got him the vet care he needed but he suffered spinal damage and was unable to use his back legs. She handmade him a cart with wheels and this strong little guy taught himself to walk again. Now he can walk al...l by himself without the help of his cart with little difficulty. He is as sweet as can be and sad now that his owner is no longer with him. He is wonderful with other dogs, cats and very gentle with children. He also will give a big smile when you say to him 'show me your geekers!' Something him and his owner shared together. Will you give him the forever home he needs? Please remember that in the future he will be a special needs dog as he may need a cart again as he grows older and you must be a truly committed forever home.
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to
families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
